The gang is back to blow away bad guys, but with the exclusion of tattoo artist Mickey Rourke. Action icons that did not appear in the first movie get added here, include Jean-Claude Van Damme (as the main villain) and Chuck Norris.

This time CIA-man Church still has beef with Stallone's character Barney, and gives him little choice in his next mission. They have to head to the former Soviet Union to find a downed aircraft carrying a package they need not know the contents of. Accompanied by a female expert, they are intercepted by the bad guys and one of their men executed. This naturally fuels the muscle-rage in our team leader and his men, as they chase down the villains with extreme prejudice.

With plutonium also part of the narrative, this time the mercenaries may in fact end up saving the world if they succeed.
